We don´t see wisents in the water so very often and it are also difficult to catch the situation in photos. Christina Sandin succeeded to observe this unique situation in the nature reserve of Eriksberg in Sweden this summer.
A young mother with her one moth old calve was together with the herd and some of the adult females go out in the water for grazing water lilies. The young mother does as she always have done, she also go out in the water and forgot her little calve. The little calve get panic when he saw her mother disappear in the water and tried to follow after her. But it was not so good decision for him.
He run towards the land first but then he run out in the water when he missing her mother, said Christina, and then he run directly out in the water. He nearly disappeared in the water. The little calve get panic and tried to "swim" and struggled back to land. After five minutes the mother also comes back and it ended happily.
